Vemana Institute of Technology (VIT) is located in the highly upmarket Koramangala locality of South-Central Bangalore. BMTC buses like 171, 201G, 162, 340, 342 provide easy connectivity from Majestic and some other parts of the city.Infrastructure:

It's not something appreciable, but can be lived with. Labs are well equipped with modern apparatus, classrooms are decently maintained and the library is spacious. Although the library has a good number of books, majority are those fat books which students never even think of touching. The actually usable ones are few and are always issued to someone or the other. Also, the campus has no appropriate sporting facilities.
The Vemana Institute of Technology boys hostel lies in a dilapidated condition somewhere near JC Road. It's not even very accessible from college. The girls hostel is somewhat better and close to the campus, yet most students prefer PGs over the college hostels. Fees for the hostel are around Rs. 12,000/-Fees:

Students don't have much problem about the teaching of the faculty. What they have grudges about is that the teachers treat them as school kids; make them sit at the same place everyday, insist on girls and guys sitting separately and other such unnecessary rules.Attendance & Discipline:

All round the semester, Vemana Institute of Technology (VIT) stresses on attendance and discipline and makes it mandatory to attend 85% of the lectures. If it falls below that, generally no stern actions are taken, but once in a while a bunch of students with low attendance may be disallowed to appear for exams so that that fear keeps people in control.Crowd:

Most people out here remind us of "Chatur Ramalingam" of the "3 Idiots" fame. Extremely bookish and study-oriented, with no belief in pragmatic knowledge. Few exceptions remain but they prefer rather not attending college than spending time with "Chaturs"Canteen:

"What are you talking about?" is the reply. And then we suddenly realise, "Chaturs" wouldn't need a canteen to spend time bunking lectures.Hangouts:

It's Koramangala guys! Innumerable eateries, fancy restaurants, expensive restaurants, cheap restaurants, coffee day outlets, chocolate shops, bakeries, juice stalls, ice cream parlours, malls with multiple screen theatres, everything can be found really close to the college. But only if you could someone at the college to hang around with :(Festivals:

None. Half the time college authorities are not supportive, half the time students aren't too keen.Placements:

Plain average. Two to three mass recruiters (read IT companies) visit the campus and swallow in about 200-220 students from a batch size of 500 and that's pretty much it.

Location:

Located in the outer region of the Bangalore called Kumbalgodu, Vivekananda Institute of Technology (VKIT) is about 25km from centre. There are enough BMTC buses plying on Mysore Road but, the college being 2km off it, many students opt for college bus.

Infrastructure:

Campus is quite big; it’s spread over an area of 24 acres. Well maintained library, Wi-Fi connectivity in entire campus with 4 routers in each department, well ventilated classrooms with comfortable desks and a 250 capacity seminar hall are the highlights of the primarily good infra. Labs for computer related departments are well-equipped but other branches are not so fortunate as they have to deal with shortage of equipment.

There are hostel facilities in college for male students along with the mess facility. For females the hostel is located in the Rajajinagar which is about 20-25 km away. There is no mess in girls’ hostel and food comes in from nearby restaurants.

Faculty:

There are many seniors and a few juniors in VkIT. Seniors are well-versed with their subjects but lack proper communication skills. Students complain that they can’t even get 1% of what their faculties are teaching. CSE is considered rather better than other departments.

Attendance:

75% is attendance is a mandatory and those who can't make it have to pay huge sum of fine to the management. Also you may have to do away with internal marks for less attendance. Parents are also kept updated with their children’s attendance.

Crowd:

You’ll find all variety of human beings here; it’s a mixture of lively, nerdy and boring people. Though the majority of students from Karnataka itself, many can be found from northern parts of country too. Boys and girls are almost equal in proportion.

Canteen:

Canteen of VKIT is average. It is spacious and one can have their food peacefully over here. Food available in canteen is okay but there is not much variety in menu. Only ‘desi’ foods like Uddin Vada, Sambhar & other south Indian delicacies are available; students often demand for junk foods like pizza and burger. A few Chinese dishes like fried rice & Gobi Manchurian are also on offer. The prices are reasonable.

Hangouts:

As the college is far from city, there aren’t too many hangouts but a couple of bakeries, a restaurant and a general shop should suffice your recreational needs. Also chilling under the banyan tree is a favourite pastime of students here.

Festivals:

VIBHIN, the annual festival of Vivekanand Institute of Technology is celebrated during even semesters mostly in April. Participants consist mostly of VKIT; just a handful of students come in from nearby colleges.

Placements:

About 25-30% of students manage to get a job during campus placements. Recruiters are mainly local companies like Hodge software Technologies. Students get to sit for companies like Infosys, Wipro & Accenture during pool placements. Average package ranges in 2-3 lakh/annum.

Location:

Yellamma Dasappa Institute of Technology (YDIT) is located on Kanakpura Road, about 14 kms from the centre of Bangalore. Since it's located right at the main road, it's well connected by BMTC buses.
 Infrastructure:

Overall the infrastructure of YDIT seems pretty decent; sufficient open space, well furnished classrooms, new edition books in the library and a digital library with e-books and Internet connectivity. However, the mech and civil departments need a separate block just as CS & IS have. Additionally the ceiling of the top floor of a few blocks are in urgent need of a revamp; they need to be concretised!

Yellamma Dasappa Institute of Technology (YDIT) provides hostel facilities but the hostels are quite small and only a handful of students prefer them. The fees for hostel are around Rs.16,000/- a year, excluding food (for which there is no provision and has to be managed on your own)

Faculty:

Since, Civil and Mechanical are the newly started branches there's a lack of good teachers. ECE, CS, IS are better but only slightly. Many students complain that teachers are not very fluent with English and switch to a more comfortable language (for them, not the students)Attendance:

The college recommends an attendance of 85% without any medical reasons and a further 10% relaxation is allowed if appropriate certificates are produced. However, students say that harsh actions such as detaining are taken only if the attendance is well below this level (around 40-50%) and plus only if your conduct has been bad throughout.Crowd:

The crowd isn't really much to talk about. Almost 99% of the students seem to come from different parts of Karnataka, 99% of which appear to come from distant little villages. There are hardly any students from urban cities and North Indians could perhaps be counted on fingers. A lot of them don't seem to be much serious about their education here and are more interested in having fun.Canteen:

The canteen at Yellamma Dasappa Institute of Technology (YDIT) was recently closed down, apparently due to some 'Vastushastra' problem.Hangouts:

Bad. Tech Mahindra is the biggest recruiter with about 40-50 recruitments every year. Apart from that another 2-3 companies like TCS and Oracle recruit a few more students, but that's pretty much it. No big companies, no fat salaries. About 50% students get placed.

Location:

Located in the far northwest region of Bangalore, Acharaya Institute of Technology is built on the main campus of Acharya Institutes. The college is pretty far from the main road hence not easily accessible unless you have a two wheeler or are ready to spend a good amount on the auto rickshaws. The college provides bus facility whose charges are proportionate to the distance you stay from the college. BMTC bus 250 drops you to the college but the frequency isn’t impressive. Chikkabanavara is the nearest railway station and some prefer to travel by train. In short, the college is not easily accessible but it’s very famous, so reaching here shouldn’t bother you much.

Infrastructure:

Excellent! Well, students claim that it has one of the best infrastructures in any college within the city and/or state. Classrooms are air conditioned (which is rare in Bangalore engineering colleges) , excellently maintained, hi-tech facilities, equipped with a wifi internet connection and hugely spaced out. The campus has almost 10 buildings for different department of engineering and other courses. College premise is not at all cluttered and you can see a lush green plantation throughout the campus. Library is superb and has books for all the courses in abundance. There is a separate library only for reference books. Cricket stadium, a huge playground, volleyball, basketball and table tennis court completes the magnificent artwork of the college.
Hang on! The striking feature of the architecture of every building is that its made in the shape of the initials of every department when seen from the top. (For ex.: M for Mechanical, E for Electrical). Have a look at the satellite view to believe us.

Hostel facilities are equally top notch. From clean and widely spaced bedrooms and washrooms to hygienic mess food, everything is perfect when it comes to hostel life. Yeah, you’ve to spend a whopping 1 lakh per annum for the hostel rent.

Faculty:

Professors at AIT, well that’s what the students call it fondly, are highly qualified and have got their PhD and M.Tech degrees. Infact, students say that it’s a mandatory rule in Acharya to have these requirements. Along with a good number of senior faculties, you can expect to meet teachers with a minimum experience of 5 years. Mechatronics department is pretty good. Almost every lecture is conducted in English while a few teach in Kannada as well. Student-teacher rapport is healthy and students are pretty much interested in attending lectures. Lucky professors!

Attendance & Discipline:

Acharya follows the strict VTU norm of 75% failing which students will not be allowed to give their mid semester exams. The management allows to compensate for the low attendance by covering in the next semester failing which students are detained. Though there have not been a lot of cases in the past but the authorities can act strict any time. Also, a lot of warnings are given throughout the semester, so chances of detaining are VERY less.

Crowd:

At Acharya Institute of Technology, you can expect to meet a diversified crowd though most of them hail from the city of Bangalore. Students from North, especially Bihar, and North east regions are seen in the college. Boys to girls’ ratio is almost equal; certainly not the same for core branches.  Crowd is friendly, enjoys/celebrates college activities and focus on their academics also. There are a lot of inter department events held round the year and the participation is mind blowing. In short, students study and party equally.

Canteen:

College canteen serves decent food at economical rates. It’s widely spaced and you can expect a decent variety in the food. Quality, too, is pretty good!

Hangouts:

Acharya Institutes is a huge campus which itself is a hangout place. Apart from the canteen, there is a sandwich cum soda stall which is jam-packed with students primarily because of its excellent taste and lower rates. Jalahalli cross and Rock Line mall are the happening areas next to the campus where you see Acharya-ites chilling. There is a smoking joint next to the college where you see a lot of MBA students as well. As the location isn’t very accessible, places too aren’t hi-fi but students some how manage their non academic life.

Festivals:

Acharya Habba, inter college festival of Acharya Institutes, is supposedly the biggest college festival in Bangalore.

Placements:

Companies like Infosys, Mahindra, Bosch, Wipro, Michelin Tyres, etc. are seen in the Acharya campus during the placement season. Infosys is the mass recruiter of all and offers jobs to around 100-150 students every batch. If you meet the basic requirements, you can be rest assure of getting a job though the trend shows that around 60%-70% of the students get placed in every batch. Students feel that the placement scenario should improve and more companies should visit the college.

Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology (NMIT), Bangalore

Location:

Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology (NMIT) is about 3 kms off the Bangalore International Airport Road close to the Yelahanka Airforce Base in the Northern extremes of Bangalore. The location of the college is very remote and inaccessible as BMTC buses drop you at the highway but nowhere near the college, so travelling by BMTC buses is out of the question. There are just trees, grass and may be a couple of farms around the campus. Students either travel by their own vehicles or by the college bus which ferries them from Yelahanka or Naganhalli.

Infrastructure:

The Nitte Meenakshi campus is vast and exactly as you would expect a college in such far-off region to have. The campus is shared by the Engineering College, the MBA & PGDM departments and the First-Grade College. Academically, the infrastructure is unexceptional and mediocre; roomy classrooms, well-ventilated labs and a library which just suffices. Sporting facilities are lacking at present but are expected to be taken care of soon. Number of books in the library is nothing to complain about but the students claim that the books which they actually require are few.

Hostels are tolerable as well, the only issue being WATER SHORTAGE! Be prepared to attend classes without taking a bath, as no one can guarantee if water will be available the next morning. Food is another issue but only for some. Hostel fees are about Rs. 60,000/- per year including food. The girls hostel is relatively worse compared to the boys hostel.

Faculty:

Students claim that the newly started departments like Civil are pathetic while Mechanical, EEE & ECE are just over average. Students complain that a lot of their lectures are taken by inexperienced faculty who’ve just finished with their own Masters or even pursuing it. CS and IS are exceptions.

Attendance:

Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology (NMIT) is pretty lenient about attendance and absolutely no actions are taken up to 75% except for nominal fines. Between 60-75% attendance, students are expected to pay up slightly higher fines but still nowhere close to ruining up your month’s pocket money, unless you’re a defaulter in all subjects. Below 60% they’ll start troubling you and make you run around here and there but harsh actions such as debarring from exams are taken only in extreme cases.

Crowd:

Astonishingly, it’s fabulous! Quite unexpected at a college this distant from the city. Enthusiastic, approachable, sophisticated and highly urban. Bangalore forms the majority and is followed by people from North Indian states.

Canteen:

The canteen is very spacious and modernistic. Although it is common for all colleges in the campus, it suffices during peak hours also. Food served is of acceptable quality with some items on the menu being pretty tasty. Popular foods include rice items, fresh juice and bakery items.

Hangouts:

What do you expect to find in the middle of a grassland?

Festivals:

The Engineering college Festival “Anaadyanta” which is an inter college cultural festival happens sometime in March every year. A few more intra college department festivals are also celebrated at Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology (NMIT).

Placements:

Placements are magnificent for the CS & IS departments, while Mechanical students are left out due to lack of core companies visiting the campus. Only 10% of the students get placed on campus from the Mechanical department, whereas EEE, CS & IS record above 70% placements. Companies visiting the campus are TCS, Tech Mahindra, Dell, Mahindra Satyam, Coca Cola and a few more. Salaries offered are ranging between Rs. 2.5L per year to 5.5L per year.

RV College of Engineering (RVCE), Bangalore

Location:

Located on Mysore Road, RV College of Engineering (RVCE) is quite far from the centre of the city and it takes about an hour to reach the college without traffic. However it’s easily accessible as a lot of BMTC buses ply here. College also provides bus facility for 15,000 a year. Almost equal numbers of students travel by BMTC and college bus.

Infrastructure:

The RV College of Engineering (RVCE) campus is huge and is also very beautiful. There is a separate block for each department. The academic infrastructure is top class. Labs are of course well-equipped and also have equipment which are not usually found in any other colleges of the city. The entire campus is Wifi enabled, which however isn't very reliable. Library is pretty big and has a lot of books. But it needs to enhance its collection as some of the books are not found in sufficient numbers. Also college needs to provide better facilities for sports. There are a couple of playgrounds (unlike many other engineering colleges in Bangalore, where there are absolutely no grounds or open space) but and they are not in a very good condition and students in general aren't too happy with this factor.

Hostels for 2nd and final year are new and they’re nice. The first years hostels are average. But the 3rd years hostels are old and in a pathetic condition. There are just 4 bathrooms between 64 students. Mess food is fine but offers no variety to students. Hostel charges are Rs 45,000 a year including mess charges.

Faculty:

Some of the faculty at RV College of Engineering (RCVE) are pretty amazing, but they are few. Half of the faculty members are freshers who don’t have much of an experience. Communication in class is in English and sometimes in Kannada as well. So outsiders might face problems understanding what they teach. Quite a few teachers are also said to be partial to local students. Overall the faculty here are not the kind that one expects to be at one of the top colleges in city.

Attendance & Discipline:

Attendance is a big issue in RV College of Engineering. You are expected to have at least 85%. A 10% relaxation is given for genuine medical reasons or for participating in extra-curricular activities. But below 75% they’ll make you run around but below 65% you’ll have to appear for ‘fast track semester’ – as they call it. A fast track semester is held during vacations in between regular sems. If you fail in Fast Track Exams too, then you'll get a back. Attendance also depends to a great extent on which department you're talking about: chemical is the strictest while mechanical is most lenient.

Crowd:

50% students are from various parts of Karnataka while the rest 50% are from all parts of the country. A lot of nerdy type of crowd is to be expected over here. As a fresher one may face some problems initially in getting along, especially those who are not from Bangalore, but after a sem or 2 they’ll make it fine.

Hangouts:

Not the best hangouts surround RVCE but there’s one Gopalan Mall which is a decent place to kill time. There are also a few good place in Rajarajeshwari Nagar else you can always go to places like MG Road, Koramangala or Malleshwaram in the central region to find some better options.

Canteen:

There are 2 canteens but no variety is available in either. Only the south Indian food tastes good; north Indian food also tastes like south Indian most of the times. Sitting space is also not enough for the strength of students. Good part is that it’s very reasonably priced.

Festivals:

A lot of festivals happen here but ‘8th Mile’ is the biggest among all of them. Although it's not on as large scale as some of the more popular festivals in the city arranged by colleges which are in the league of RVCE, it’s not bad either. It’s an annual inter-college techno-cultural fest held in March.

Placements:

It’s the best part of this college. More than 100% placement for all branches is guaranteed. More IT companies than the core ones visit the campus, so CS, IS and ECE branches gets more salaries which is 4.5 – 5 lakh on an average. IBM, Wipro & Accenture are the major recruiters for these branches. Big MNCs like Microsoft & Texas Instruments also took a few students offering an amazing package of 10 to 12 Lakhs. Mechanical, Civil, IM and other branches gets average 3.5 lakh package and their major recruiters are Bosch & L&T.

Location:

Situated in MS Ramaiah Nagar, MS Ramaiah Institute of Technology (MSRIT) has a very good location. It is well connected by BMTC buses which ply here from almost all parts of the city. The nearest bus stop is just about 2 minutes' walk from the main gate of college.

Infrastructure:

The campus of MSRIT is huge. It is so vast that it feels like a small village. All the courses that can be possibly taught are there in the campus and there are separate, often more than one building for each of them. Also new buildings keep coming up to accommodate for ever increasing courses and students. Infrastructure of some of the new blocks is all the rage while many others are undergoing renovations. Labs are equipped with all the necessary instruments and they are replaced with new ones regularly. There are more than one library of which students make use of. They remain open till 11.30pm during exams. A Digital library is also there which can be accessed twenty four-seven. WiFi is currently provided in only a few areas of the campus but LAN is accessible from labs and browsing rooms and serves purpose well. Sports facilities are something students feel should improve. There is a common playground for cricket, football and other sports.

MSRIT has separate hostels, charges for which are Rs.42,000 per year including food. Nothing about it is out of the world but they are decent, liveable ones. In fact they are much better than old hostels which had small rooms and dirty washrooms. Girls’ hostel have tiny rooms that need to be shared with 2 or 3 more people. Mess food is not bad but you get bored of it after a while. Also it is difficult to differentiate between North Indian & South Indian dishes that are available in mess, as the cook uses same masalas in all items.

Faculty:

Faculty in MSRIT varies as per department - Mechanical has the best ones whereas EEE has quite average ones. Rest all departments have a mixture of good and average teachers with a few exceptionally good ones too. Overall faculty at hand are well qualified, experienced and students seem satisfied with the teaching. Also there are no issues with communication and English language as can be seen in many other colleges in the city.

Attendance:

Not as strict as PESIT but strict nevertheless. 85% attendance is asked for but it will be relaxed till 75% if you have genuine medical reasons or have participated in events. They are more serious with first year students and become somewhat lenient and more considerate 2nd year onwards. Apart from attendance college isn’t too strict or rigid for disciplinary issues and believes in giving freedom to its students in college and hostels.

Crowd:

Crowd is very diverse. One can find students from various parts of the country and various types of students too. Everyone is friendly, mixing and there are no anti-social elements. About 70% students are Bangalore-ites. Students are very enthusiastic and can be seen participating in some or other event throughout the year creating a lively, cheerful atmosphere.

Canteen:

There are 2 canteens in MSRIT campus - one in multi purpose block and another in ESB2. There's isn't much variety in the dishes but the food that is available is decent and rates too are highly subsidized.

Hangouts:

Lots of good places are there in nearby areas like Mathikere and New BEL road. Ranging from McDonalds to KFC to Subway to Pizza Hut and Dominos everything is there at a stone’s throw distance. There’s a ‘Shanti Sagar’ restaurant particularly popular among students.

Festivals:

‘Udbhav’ is the annual intercollege cultural festival held in March. It’s a mega event and sees a lot of participation from many colleges across the state. Apart from that there are many other departmental and committee festivals too. Basically there’s enough opportunities to shine in extra curriculars be it sports, dramatics or robotics.

Placements:

All those who meet the selection criteria of the companies get placed. TCS, Infosys & Cognizant are major recruiters. Core companies are also visit the campus for recruitment for all the branches. Average package given is around 4 LPA. MNCs like Microsoft are also noted to have picked up a few students offering salaries of 8 lakh.
