Location:

PESIT South Campus, formerly known as PES School of Engineering (PESSE) is located on Hosur Road far in the south-western parts of Bangalore. Lots of BMTC buses ply on Hosur Road but there’s no stop for the college. The nearest bus stop of Electronics City being a kilometer away (as mentioned in their address), one has to walk that much distance to reach the gate of campus. So you might want to establish amicable relationship with bus driver so that he’ll stop the bus outside college for you. Entrance to college is further three fourths of a kilometer and the path leading there goes around the entire college building walking on which you keep wondering why have they kept the entrance at the backside, not to mention that it is devoid of any trees or shade.
Infrastructure:
When you enter the campus you can see a massive cricket ground in front of you, another enormous football field to your left and a cow grazing field to your right. The infrastructure and facilities are well up to date. Labs are well maintained and equipment is new. Library is also quite impressive and contains all the required books in sufficient numbers. Entire campus is WiFi enabled.
Hostels are amazing and probably one of the best in entire Bangalore. Rooms are available on triple sharing basis and bathrooms are attached in each room. Charges are 50k a year including food. Food is average.
Faculty:
Faculties at PES School of Engineering (PESSE) are very good. Majority of them are experienced and a few freshers who are there also teach only the first years. Some of them are said to be partial to south Indian students. They can teach in English, Hindi or Kannada depending on what students are comfortable with.
Attendance & Discipline:
Attendance is a big issue in PESSE. All branches other than Mechanical are very particular about it and wants the students to have 85% at any cost and those who fail to achieve this are not allowed to write the exam. Final year students are given some relaxation but all other years have to attend religiously.
Other than attendance, college is very strict about certain disciplinary rules. All students are required to attend the 1st day of each term, failing to do so attracts a fine of Rs 5000 a day. Everyone is supposed to write notes in each lecture and maintain a notebook of it; if you’re absent for one lecture you should complete it next day. Mass bunking is STRICTLY not allowed. Also only a limited numbers of holidays are given and celebration of festivals like Holi or even Diwali is also discouraged.
Compared to college, hostels are not that strict. You just have to be nice to warden and greet them occasionally.
Crowd:
Half of the students are north Indians and half locals. The crowd is very nice & friendly. There is unity in among departments. They are not over studious but know how to manage their studies. Other than mechanical in all branches there are almost equal number of girls and boys.
Canteen:
There are 3 canteens in the college. They are on different floors - one on ground floor, other 2 on terrace of separate floors. Dining room for staff is separate. All three are spacious and serves different types of food. But the one on 4th floor always gets filled up first as it has lot of variety. All canteens are reasonably priced.
Hangouts:
There is nothing nearby, one has to go to Madiwala to find good hangouts. There are some eating places in Electronic city too, which is 1 km away from college.
Festivals:
“Maaya” is the annual cultural, sports and technical festival held in October. Students actively participate in it and have a gala time during the fest as all the restrictions are taken off. Some intra college competitions and days are organized during even semesters. So even semester is usually colder compared to odd due to lack of activities.
Placements:
PES School of Engineering (PESSE) has a big advantage in placements because they’re conducted in PES University Main campus and PESSE students are allowed to sit for all those companies that come for PESIT. Although students here claim that PESIT students are given an upper hand, about 90% of the students get placed in a wide range of companies from Infosys to Microsoft. Wipro is a major recruiter and picks up most number of students, followed by TCS, HCL, Infosys & Cognizant. Average package is 4.5 Lakh while highest offer made was 13 Lakh. But there’s a rule that a student can’t take more than 2 offer letters to provide fair placement to all students.

Location:

Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology (RGIT) located in RT Nagar is at 15 to 20 minutes walking distance from the nearest bus stop of Hebbal. Though the college is well within city limits and quite a few buses ply to Hebbal, reaching here is not very convenient as it’s a somewhat far from the bus stop.
Infrastructure:
The campus is really small and there is a dental college, a hospital, an engineering college and hostels all in the same premises. So there’s no open space or garden or sport facilities of any sorts. However the academic infrastructure is pretty decent. The labs are well-equipped but many of the equipment are old, however they work well most of the time. The library is good. There is no Wi-Fi in college and wired internet which is accessible from labs is also not reliable.
Hostels are not in good condition. They’re unhygienic, hot water is rarely available and electricity goes off frequently, especially during exam time. The mess food is not that bad there’s no variety. Charges for hostel are 80,000 per year inclusive of mess.
Faculty:
Faculty of RGIT are good and it is probably the only good factor abut this college. Majority of the faculty are experienced. Mechanical has got the best teachers.
Attendance & Discipline:
The VTU norm is 75% but the college expects you to keep at least 85%. You can make up for the lack of attendance up to 60% by paying up fines of 1,000 per subject per 5% less. Below 60% you are assured of getting detained for the sem.
There are fines also for using mobiles in the campus. There is also a dress code – no round-necks and no slippers.
Crowd:
Half of the crowd is from North India while rest are from Karnataka and Kerala. Nerds are not uncommon here;you can find a lot of them.
Hangouts:
There are no hangouts in the radius of 2 km.
Canteen:
Canteen is very small but the food is decent. The best part is it is very reasonably priced.
Festivals:
There’s one intra-college festival held in April each year. It doesn’t have a fixed name as different department organises it each year.
Placements:
A few local, small-time companies do come for recruiting but hardly 4 – 5 students get selected. Even those appearing for placement can rarely make it.

Verdict:
Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology (RGIT) isn’t a great college; students themselves rate it as 5/10 at the most and it is advisable to look for a better college.

Location:

Sambhram Institute of Technology (SaIT) is a landmark in itself, located in MS Palya, Jalahalli. If you are taking a BMTC from The Majestic Bus Terminal, 266 – 401 buses drop you to the college, in maximum 15 minutes. Roughly half of the students come to college by the BMTC buses.  The college also has a bus service for students in the city and the charges are nominal too.
Infrastructure:
The classes are spacious and airy, and so is the building. In the middle is a huge basketball ground with the academic building around it. Although the classrooms aren’t air conditioned, they are well ventilated. The benches are comfortable with some classes having the typical school type 4 seater while the rest having 2 seater. Labs are good and well equipped with the necessary instruments and computer software. The library is up-to-date with all the books and their latest editions too, so that students have no issues while studying. There is internet access in the library, with wifi internet available in one’s respective departments. Different departments are located in different buildings.
About hostels; there are 3 types of hostels, named by students based on the popular culture. There is the NRI hostel, which is like a luxury hotel, with attached bathrooms. This hostel is the best out of the 3, with Rs.45,000 fees per annum. Sadly, it’s 3 kms away from the college. Then there is the OLD hostel which is in the campus, has common toilets, which are clean and well maintained, just that the infrastructure is old. The fee here is Rs. 40,000. The last is a Sri-Lankan hostel, as students call it, because it is inhabited by Nepali and Sri Lankan students, and the trend continues every year. Students are free to choose any hostel without any bias. The boys as well as the girls hostels are safe.
Faculty:
The faculty at Sambhram is very friendly. They are not double PhD holders but they make it a point to solve every doubt a student has anytime. The teachers personally care about the learning of every student and take feedback from students at regular times during the semester. Basically the attitude as the students say is ‘chilled out’. There are professors having 40 years of teaching experience and there are the relatively fresh teachers too, but the blend is very good and the students are satisfied with the learning. Math Department professors, the students say, are particularly very good. All the communication with the students during a lecture happens in English.
Attendance & Discipline:
SaIT is pretty strict about attendance and a minimum of 85% (VTU norm) is needed else big troubles await you. 10% lower attendance is considered only in case of medical issues. If you go below that, you can’t help yourself from being detained. Also you could try your rapport with your professors if that helps you out.
The discipline at the hostel is lenient, and you can walk in back till 11pm in the night. The girls though have to be back in the nest by 7pm at max.  There is no specific uniform for the students, but EC and CS have a dress code once a week. And of course the mech. labs have their own dress code.
Crowd:
Just about half of the students here are from Bangalore the rest have hailed from various parts of the country, especially from Kerala, Bihar Jharkhand and West Bengal and some have flown overseas too. There are students from Nepal and Sri Lanka (of course y’all know that and also the hostel they reside in). Crowd is friendly and lively with people from such varied backgrounds mixing very well. Although girls are less in general, relatively there are more girls in CS and IS branches and are absolutely ‘normal’ unlike other colleges where they don’t talk and mingle. Overall in a gist, the crowd is nice and simple, with the lecture bunkers being the toppers and the basketball players not far away.
Canteen:
The canteen (which is now improved) looks big and spacious with a decent variety of food served in there. Food has also improved with time now. It’s a good place to chill with friends but more importantly, lunch is served which is very popular. North Indian and South Indian lunch makes canteen pretty famous because then people don’t have to face a hard time trying to adjust to the local meals here. The lunch cost 30-35 rupees which is economical and worth.
Hangouts:
Most popular hangout here is certainly the OVAL, known for its high spirits. Then there is Mantri Mall in Kodigehalli. Nandi hills are a popular trekking destination. Malleshwaram, though quite far is popular for road side eateries.  On New B.E.L. Road you can find McDonalds, and KFC, near Ramiah college area. For the idli-dosa lovers, there are plenty of ‘tiffin’ stalls around serving the most awesome idlis steamed in the world, well, not so much, but yeah, they are good.
Festival:
VIBEZ 2012, is the cultural festival of Sambhram Institute of Technology, which is held every year in the end of April.
Placements:
If you ask a student about the general overview of the placement scenario at Sambhram, they would say it’s better than average. Students meeting the eligibility criteria don’t really have to worry about a job. Still from every batch, about 70% students get placed. Major IT/software companies come here to recruit students which include TCS, Infosys, IBM and Wipro. There are also good core companies coming in for the mechanical branch, whereas Civil still does not have a final year batch, so that cannot be commented on. There are some small & medium businesses companies seen in the campus, of which most are software companies. The average package is over 3.5 lakh to 4 lakh rupees.

Verdict:
SaIT is a good college where you can experience a nice blend of everything, good people, nice professors, and other activities. Looking back at 12 years when it was established, it has come a long way and is ‘considered’ among top 10-12 engineering colleges under VTU now. So the rate progress is promising and it must be considered if your rank is around 15000 in Karnataka CET.

Location:

Located in far North-West of Bangalore, Sapthagiri College of Engineering is one of the famous engineering institutions in the city. The college is situated in Chikkasandra region on the Hesaraghatta Main Road and is extremely far from the main city but connectivity to the college is superb. BMTC bus drops you right outside the gate on the main road. Frequency of the bus is commendable as you can expect it every 5 minutes for and from major regions. Most, prefer to travel by BMTC buses while a few choose to commute by bikes, local trains and college buses. In short, accessibility to the college should not be a problem.
Infrastructure:
Sapthagiri’s infrastructure is definitely excellent. The lush green huge campus looks beautiful and has an amphitheatre right at the centre where you see loads of students. There are three volleyball courts and a single basketball court. For some, it looks like resort! The college building is well maintained with good, clean and big classrooms. Sadly, there are no air conditioners in the lecture hall but fans work properly. There is a normal library followed by a digital one where you can find dozens of books of various courses and latest edition. The college lacks wifi connectivity but has an internet lab which students can use without any restrictions.

The college provides hostel facilities for both boys and girls, separately, of course. The hostel rent is around Rs. 24,000 per annum while the mess charges are around Rs. 18,000 per year. Rooms are big and spacious enough for two to three students to share. Bedrooms and washrooms are cleaned regularly and hygiene is thoroughly maintained. Girls’ hostel is not in the campus but is pretty safe. Fortunately, the hostel regulations aren’t that strict. There are various recreational facilities like gym, table tennis and badminton court within the hostel. Hostelites feel the hostel level is way above average as compared to other institutions with the country.
Faculty:
At Sapthagiri College of Engineering, you can expect good faculty. Pick up any course and a student is pretty happy with his/her department barring a FEW exceptions. All the teachers have got either a PhD or an M.Tech degree from the best universities in India and abroad. The college has a good lot of experienced teachers. Mechanical department conducts Industrial Visits to companies like ACE designers, Schneider and General Machine Tools. There are a few visiting lecturers for some departments but the permanent teachers are simply superb. The teachers are very friendly and do not indulge in taking out personal anger by reducing term work marks. Lectures are conducted in English; or should we say borken English?
Attendance & Discipline:
Despite the 85% attendance norm by VTU, mechanical department is the most chilled out of the lot. Till the time you’re scoring good marks, teachers and the management don’t have an issue related to the attendance. Even 50% is permissible. Computer department demands 75% attendance failing which students will not be allowed to give exams unless someone has a genuine reason. Students lacking in attendance compensate by writing loads of assignments (better than paying a fine).
There is no dress code followed in Sapthagiri College unlike many other engineering colleges in Bangalore.
Crowd:
Almost 60% of the students are from Bangalore while the remaining are from different regions like South India (major chunk), Bihar, Delhi West Bengal, etc. The crowd is very friendly and mixes with each other very well. “The diversified background is an integral part of this college and keeps the spirit alive”, says a student from Andhra Pradesh. Boys to girls ratio is pretty healthy in the CS, IS and ECE department. Infact biotech department has more number of girls. Contrary to that is the mechanical department where you hardly see any girl. Hard luck boys! The college encourages a lot of extra curricular activities and students participate in cultural festival of many other colleges also. Overall the crowd is simple from a good cultured family and believes in working hard and party harder!
Canteen:
After all the praises, canteen is what the students dislike about their college. The canteen infrastructure, quality and variety of food are not at all upto the mark. Even though the prices are economical (say a meal would cost you Rs. 25), taste and variety is what the management should look into.
Hangouts:
As the college is located in a remote location, hangouts aren’t that happening. There a few Udipi restaurants next to the college followed by a CCD. Snooker lovers are seen in a pool parlour next to the college.
Festivals:
Sankalp, intra college festival of Sapthagiri College of Engineering, is held in February. Students are sure of conducting an inter college festival in the coming years.
Placements:
Well, the list of companies that come to the college is long. Sorry, very long! Software giants Infosys, TCS and Accenture recruit students in mass. TISCO, Toyota, India Armed Force, IBM, Sonata, Oracle, HCL, Ericsson, Kirloskar, Jindal, L&T, Robert & Bosch and ORACLE are other major companies seen in Sapthagiri Engineering College  Bangalore. Some of the above companies are a part of the pool campus. In short, you can expect branch wise companies hiring students from Sapthagiri College of Engineering. The average pay package is around Rs. 3.5 lakhs per annum. Air force companies pay a handsome salary of Rs. 6L per annum while the Navy companies pay you a whopping Rs. 9 lakhs per year. And you can expect almost 100% placements in this college provided you meet the company recruitments.

Verdict:
Sapthagiri College of Engineering is an ideal college for someone who wants to study without any pressure and at the same time enjoy a bit. Excellent faculty, decent infrastructure and a good placement record is what one should expect at this college. Started in 2001, it’s definitely one of the best engineering colleges in 2nd tier level and has shown amazing progress. Location might be a hindrance for a few students.

Location:

SCT Institute of Technology is located pretty far from the main city in Vignana Nagar in East Bangalore. The nearest BMTC bus stop is Vignana Nagar where the frequency of buses is just about average. You can expect buses to come every 15-20 minutes going to the main destination. Some prefer to commute by their respective two wheelers while a major chunk travels by BMTC buses. Even though the college is pretty famous in the same area, accessibility is an issue.
Infrastructure:

Terrible! The six storey SCT building has average classrooms with no fans. Only a couple of classrooms have got a fan while most of them spend the 8 hours of college without any electricity. Fortunately, wooden benches are comfortable enough to sit. Labs are equipped with good instruments but a handful of them don’t work. Students say the lab assistants don’t take utmost care of the equipments and thus students suffer at the end. Lack of drinking water facility, no elevators and no wifi connectivity makes the college infrastructure pretty bad. Internet labs are available but students aren’t allowed to use it freely. Library is loaded with books for all the courses. Sadly, they aren’t updated and you might land up with an old edition. An average playground and a striking white and blue colour jet (for aeronautical students) are the only striking features of this college.
College provides hostel facility only for girls. Boys hostel was shut down a couple years ago so boys prefer to stay on PG in the nearby area where the rent is around Rs. 4000 per month. Girls’ hostel has average facilities with 3 to 4 sharing a single room.
It’s advised to stay on PG rather the college hostel.
Faculty:

The teaching staff at SCT is not at all classy, of course we mean in the teaching sense. You’ll meet a lot of teachers who have just finished their B.Tech and M.Tech and are teaching important subjects. The ECE faculty is definitely better than the rest. Staff is experienced, knowledgeable and friendly as well. Mechanical teachers are inexperienced and lack senior faculty. Communication is mostly in English but a few teachers conduct lectures in Kannada.
Students say that Aeronautical department is one of the best in Bangalore (though it’s offered in fewer colleges). Teaching staff for aeronautical course is impressive and are well versed with their subjects.
The college had a good reputation some 6 to 8 years ago (read faculty) but due to management issues the college has come down drastically. Moreover, the college was shut down in 2005 due to some disputes within the management committee.
Attendance & Discipline:

Attendance scenario is not very strict at SCT compared to other engineering colleges in Bangalore. Even though the norm says 85%, students say that 65% is also okay. The college demands minimum 60% failing which students have to pay a fine anything from Rs. 500 to Rs. 5000 depending upon the subject teacher, severity and percentage of attendance. 2 to 3 students have been detained in the past. Well, that’s a rare case! If you’re ready to pay fine, you can bunk happily but maintaining up to 60% shouldn’t be a problem for most!
Mechanical students have to follow a dress code during their practical sessions which is khakhi colour shirt and pant.
Crowd:

The college has a good blend of students from Bangalore city and other parts of Karnataka. You might even meet a few students from other regions of India especially North. Even though the campus is huge, you hardly see anyone loitering around. Some feel the crowd is dull. ECE, CS and IS have a good ratio of boys to girls while mechanical department is purely dominated by boys. Nothing shocking, actually!! Overall, crowd is something which wouldn’t attract anyone to the college.

Canteen:

Horrible! The canteen looks like a small roadside stall with marble sitting arrangement for around 15 to 20 people. Food is not at all tasty and lacks variety big time. Students would prefer to starve than eat the canteen food.
Hangouts:

As the area is pretty dull and aloof, you can’t expect to have any happening or for that matter even simple hangout places. Sneha and Shanti Sagar restaurants are a few to name. Students either go to the main city or areas like Koramangala and Whitefield which are pretty far from the college.
Festivals:

Well the cultural festival is celebrated for a few hours (maybe one or two), SCT’ians is what they call.
Placements:

Companies have started visiting the campus only a couple of years back. Till then, there wasn’t a placement cell. Mass recruiters like TCS, Accenture and Infosys are also not seen in the campus during the placement season. Unisys recruits students from the ECE and CS/IS background. Only toppers get placed. Local BPO’s are seen participating in the campus placement at SCT Institute of Technology. Average pay package is around 2.5 lakhs per annum and the placement rate would be around 20% to 30% of the batch. Students say they certainly deserve a better placement and would want more companies to visit the campus.

Verdict:

In a nutshell, SCT Institute of Technology is not one of the best engineering colleges in the city. Poor infrastructure, lack of experienced teachers, pathetic campus life and terrible job scenario gives a big thumbs down to the college. Students feel that if placement department is improved, the college will definitely be one of the good engineering colleges in the city.

Location:

Sri Venkateshwara College of Engineering (SVCE) is located off Bangalore International Airport Road, a little beyond the air-force base in far-north Bangalore’s Yelahanka. It’s a 15-20 minute walk from the highway where the BMTC buses drop you, so not totally inaccessible but difficult to reach, yes! The college also provides bus facility for those who want to be dropped right at the college gate, but it comes at a price (about Rs. 15,000/- per year) and since you need to stick the specific bus timings while coming to & from college, there are few who opt for this service.

Infrastructure:

Students here don’t have much to complain about the college’s infrastructure. Most other things seem to be in place. Even the hostels are pretty well taken care of. However, some feel that the rooms ought to be a little bigger. Something everyone unanimously feels is that the mess food needs a total makeover.
SVCE has a well established - fully computerised library with 25630 titles covering all major fields of Science and Engineering. The library covers an area of 1338 sqm, spanning the ground floor, first floor and second floor, with conference room and an ample study space. The ground floor is Air-conditioned. The Library has the following facilities for the faculty, staff and the students: Conferencing, Multimedia, Internet, Reprography and a CD-ROM collection.A book bank for deserving candidates is also being maintained.
The college subscribes to most of the major technical journals including IEEE, IEE,ASCE, ACM, ASTM,J-GATE,MCGRAWHILL ,NATURE and ScienceDirect journals. The total number of volumes available is: 93935. The total number of Print and Online journals subscribed is: 896. Total number of CD's is 1725 and the total seating capacity is 230.
College is an institutional member of The British Council Library, CIPET, and MALIBNET. We strongly believe in e-learning. Towards this we have provided Multimedia Computers with internet connectivity, CBT, CDs, e-books, e-journals etc.

Faculty:
Students from most departments are not satisfied with the teaching. Except the CS and Mechanical departments which are a notch better than the rest, others are either said to have a majority of junior professors with little or no experience or very strict HODs.
Attendance & Discipline:
Now that’s where Sri Venkateshwara College of Engineering (SVCE) screws up your college life. Every day turns out to be more stressful than the previous until this becomes a habit. The gates are closed with the beginning of the first lecture and no one is allowed to sneak out until lunch. As the lunch time nears its end, a loud warning siren is blown and hundreds of students are immediately seen approaching the college gates from whichever corner they may have wandered to just the way you see factory workers march to their workplace after lunch hours. Again, once you’re in, you can’t come out till the end of college.
Those with short in attendance are levied fines ranging from Rs. 200-500 to as high as Rs. 2000-20000/-
Crowd:
Since SVCE is remotely located, it draws a lot of students from nearby rural areas. Some do come from proper Bangalore but the ratio is relatively less. “It’s difficult to find like-minded people here” says a disappointed student. “Interaction is less” she continues.
Canteen:
The canteen of Sri Venkateshwara College of Engineering (SVCE) is on the opposite side of the road. It’s pretty huge but the food continues to be horrible even after repeated complaints. “And there is no other place to eat nearby so we are forced to eat this ‘jail’ food” comments a frustrated student.
Hangouts:
NONE
Festivals:
‘Udyukta’ is the technical festival organized at Sri Venketeshwara College of Engineering (SVCE). Although, the fest is inter college, low participation from other colleges ultimately make it an intra college affair. 'Kalavaibhav' is their cultural festival which recieves warmer response than Udyukta. Other events include 'Shrusti' a one day event for students to canvas their talent.
Placements:
If you keep your academic score above 60% overall, you can expect to get placed, at least if you’re from the CS or IS departments. On the whole, only a few companies visit the campus for recruitments and most students have to rely on pool-campuses wherein a company comes to more reputed colleges and you have to go to that college at the prescribed time. Ultimately it’s upon the students’ calibre and the college puts in little efforts.
About 30-40% of the students get placed with few recruitments in Civil and Mechanical departments.
Placements are likely to hike up in coming years due the recent appointment of new TPO.
Contact:

Verdict:
Extreme strictness and unjustified discipline have compelled the students to consider SVCE to be a prison of sorts. And with inept faculty and no reliable placement scenario, this college doesn’t win many hearts.

Location:

Sri Krishna Institution of Technology is located in far north western region of Bangalore in Chikkabanavara. The college is not that easily accessible as the BMTC bus stop is on the main road and one has to walk for a couple of minutes to reach the institution. Bus frequency is not great and most of the students prefer to travel by their respective two wheelers. Some choose to travel by local trains as Chikkabanavara railway station is at stones’ throw distance from the college.

Infrastructure:

Adorably called as SKIT, the college have an impressive infrastructure & plantation in the small campus. As it’s located on an upslope hill, the view of the college building from the gate grabs your attention immediately. Despite having spacious classrooms, there are only a couple of fans, some of which don't work. Thankfully, there are no electricity problems.  Wooden benches aren't broken and comfortable enough to sit. Library has abundance of books for all the streams. There is wifi connectivity only in the canteen but students can't access it as the management has not given the password thus making the purpose of wifi internet useless. There is a parking lot right at the entrance of the college where you see a lot of boys doing time pass.
There is hostel facility for both boys and girls but not in the campus. Rental charges are around Rs. 45,000 per year which includes mess food. Facilities are definitely not up to the mark but students have adjusted to that kind of living.
Fees:

For Karnataka CET students: Rs. 41,590/- per year
For UGET (COMEDK) students: Rs. 1.4L per year
Faculty:

At SKIT, you can expect 60% good professors and the remaining not upto the mark. Experienced faculty are seen in the mechanical department and thus it turns out to be the best department of this college. Students call it as the ‘royal department’. You’ll meet enough fresher teachers who don’t even have industrial experience. Information Science is equally good but ECE is the worst of the lot. Despite all this, teachers are friendly and easily approachable and thankfully lectures are conducted in English.
Attendance & Discipline:

Sri Krishna Institute of Technology follows the strict 85% attendance norm imposed by the VTU and 10% relaxation is granted. So a student has to maintain 75% failing which, he/she has to pay a fine. In worst cases, parents are called and/or student is suspended. Detaining is never seen in this college.
Crowd:

SKIT has a good and healthy ratio of boys to girls and is friendly with each other. Almost 70% of the students come from Bangalore and other regions of Karnataka while the rest are seen from North, especially North East. Students participate in extra curricular activities and focus on academics when exams are around.
Canteen:

Canteen serves some awesome delicacies like Gobi Manchurian and Fried Rice, which are the hot favourite among these students, at highly economical rates. Variety is good, quality and taste is nice and the canteen is well spaced.

Hangouts:

Well you can see a lot of students going to the Rockline Mall on Hesaraghatta Main Road where there’s a food court. Non veg lovers are seen hogging fried chicken at Yuva and Carribean. Not the best location in terms of hangout, SKIT students still manage their way out.

Festival:

Phoenix, inter collegiate festival of Sri Krishna Institute of Technology, is held in the first week of March.
Placements:

Infosys, Unisys and IBM are the companies that you see at Sri Krishna Institute of Technology during the recruitment season. Most of the times students go for pool campus placement to Acharya Engineering College or Sapthagiri College of Engineering. Mahindra, Satyam and Aditi Techno are the companies that recruit students from the mechanical department. Average salary is Rs. 3 lakhs per annum while 50% to 60% students get placed from every batch.

Verdict:

Average crowd, just about average placements and good canteen makes Sri Krishna Institute of Technology a good bet for an average scorer in the entrance exam. There are certainly better choices when it comes to engineering institutions in Bangalore.

Location:

T John Institute of Technology is located in far south of Bangalore in the region of Gottigere on Bannerghatta Main Road. Despite its remote location, the college is pretty famous in the city. The college is easily accessible by BMTC buses (bus no 365) which drop you on the main road. A large number of students also prefer to travel by bikes. In short, connectivity to the college is pretty good.
Infrastructure:
The T John campus is really huge as it gives shelter to all the possible courses offered in India. Right from engineering to pharmacy and from nursing to MBA, you’ll see separate buildings of all the departments. Coming back to the engineering department, classrooms are excellently maintained with comfortable long benches. The striking feature is that the classrooms don’t have a fan and the reason behind it is the eco friendly campus. Well, students don’t feel hot as the area is windy most of the times. Same is the case with the canteen and other departments. The campus is wifi enabled with high speed and no restriction. There are separate libraries for all the courses with latest edition books available in abundance.
T John has hostel facility for both boys and girls separately, of course, at a rent of Rs. 18,000 per annum including the mess food. Surprisingly five of them share a room but it’s not at all congested. The rooms are really spacious and well maintained, washrooms are cleaned regularly and there are no water problems. Hostels are enabled with wifi connectivity. Rules and regulations are not really strict and thus hostel life is pleasant and enjoyable.
Fees:
For Karnataka CET students: Rs. 36,090/- per year
For UGET (COMEDK) students: Rs. 1.25L per year
Faculty:
The teaching staff at T John is pretty average. Most of the students don’t understand what exactly is taught in the lecture. A handful of teachers are experienced, mostly the HOD and the senior professors, while the rest are freshers. Students feel the scenario is the same for most of the departments in engineering and thus pointing out the best department is quite difficult. Lectures are conducted in English and teachers are pretty friendly.
Attendance & Discipline:
Following the 75% VTU norm, T John has a pretty strict attendance pattern. Students have to maintain 75% but something close to 60% is tolerated. Anything below 50% is bad and will increase your chances of a year drop. To compensate for the low attendance, you are burdened with loads of assignments. Paying a fine for the low attendance is strictly not allowed.
There is no dress code discipline in T John Engineering college.
Crowd:
50% of the students at T John are from the local city while the rest are from different parts of India, mostly Kerala and Bihar. Being an engineering college, you’re bound to see more number of boys, rather less girls. Despite the non uniformity, the crowd gels well with each other. “Unity is what you can expect at T John”, quotes a six foot tall Bangalorian boy. A good blend of hi-fi and simple crowd is what T John has in store for you.
Canteen:
Well the T John canteen has good tasty food at just above an economical rate. Breakfast, lunch and evening items are served everyday. Chow chow bath, sandwiches and idli sambhar are the hot favourite delicacies of this cafeteria. Oh, and it’s huge, so getting a seat is never a problem.
Hangouts:
Menakshi Mall is where you’ll see truckload of students chilling and enjoying the non academic life. As it’s located on the main highway, happening hangouts are a rare.
Festivals:
The name keeps on changing every year and is celebrated not on a very large scale.
Placements:
Wipro, HP, Microsoft, Bluestar are the regular recruiters at T John Institute of Technology. Since they are not the mass recruiter, getting a job is not that easy unless you impress the panel. In every batch, 50% of the students get campus placement while the rest try on their own. Annual pay package is around Rs. 3 lakhs per annum. Improvisation is must!

Verdict:

Campus and crowd are the plus points; faculty and placements are the major drawbacks. Not the ideal engineering college in Bangalore unless on campus jobs and teaching level are escalated. T John is a good college for an average scorer in CET.

Location:

The Oxford College of Engineering (TOCE) is located on Hosur Main Road near an area called Bommanahalli in the South-Eastern region of Bangalore. It is quite far from the centre of city and it takes a lot more time to travel due to traffic, however reaching there is easy by BMTC buses. 360, 600 series and 356 series are the buses starting from Majestic and they all come via different routes covering various areas providing good connectivity with major areas of the city.
Infrastructure:
Infrastructure of Oxford College is pretty good. The campus is big but space is not properly utilized and a space crunch is felt owing to new buildings that have come to accommodate for recently started courses. MBA, MCA departments have AC classes, others also have spacious, well-ventilated & comfortable classrooms. CS department has air-conditioned labs equipped with up to date PCs, other departments too have well-equipped labs. A new, nicer library is recently opened up but not all books have been brought there yet. Wifi is available in each department separately but not in entire campus as a whole due to which there are some connectivity issues are faced by the students. One thing that's needed is proper facilities for sports, the playground which is currently there is not in a pretty condition.
Hostel facilities are provided by college priced at 35k per year excluding food for which you need to shell out additional 2000 rupee monthly. There is water and power shortage in hostels. Otherwise they're fine.
Fees:
For Karnataka CET students – Rs 36,090 a year.
For COMEDK students – Rs 1.25 Lakh per year.
These are VTU fees above which college charges 3500.
Faculty:
EEE is the best department in terms of faculty where there are many good teachers whereas Mechanical has lots of freshers who are not as good as the senior staff. Many teachers lack fluency in English language and they need to resort to Kannada or Hindi to explain properly. Students feel that some teachers, although knowledgeable, are boring and need to improve their teaching methodology. Overall majority teachers are experienced.
Attendance & Discipline:
It is expected of students to maintain 75% attendance. However one can sail through with up to 50% of attendance. Below that won’t be allowed in most cases.
College adheres to a lot of disciplinary rules too. There are fines for tiny little reasons such as not attending first day of a term, there’s a uniform to be worn during labs for ECE students, strict timing has to be followed; one has to enter by 9.15 am to attend first lecture, by 10.15 to attend next lecture & so on throughout the day and generally no one’s allowed in in between lectures. Also everyone is expected to wear I-card all the while they are on campus. One thing that they are surprisingly not much strict about is use of mobile phones. “Earlier they used to confiscate mobiles and return them only at the end of semester; but once they had lost a few mobiles and couldn’t return them to their rightful owners; since then they’ve stopped this practice”, says a senior student smirking.
Crowd:
The crowd here is a good mix of locals & hostelites. Overall girls & boys are almost equal in numbers but IS & Biotech branches have few boys compared to girls. Students are quite mixing and friendly but most of them seem to be interested only in studies & lack enthusiasm to participate in extracurricular activities.
Hangouts:
There’s nothing much nearby. Students generally go to canteen when they bunk. Else Forum Mall and Total Mall are the closest places which are decent enough to go to.
Canteen:
The canteen is quite nice & spacious. It offers as much variety as a restaurant but doesn’t charge as much. Students recommend ‘Gobi Manchurian’ as a must have item.
Festivals:
The annual cultural festival of TOCE is held May. It is called “Jalsa” but the name is likely to change every year.
Placements:
Placements for Oxford College can said to be as average but they’re improving each year. Major companies that come here for recruitment are Accenture, Infosys, TCS & Capgemini. Average salary offered is 3.5 LPA. Sadly no core companies come for branches other than CS & IS.

Verdict:
The Oxford College of Engineering (TOCE) is comparatively a new college and it is slowly building its reputation. Infrastructure & Faculty are the plus points but college takes a hit in placements and extra-curricular activities. Students like to place it in top 3 colleges of average rated or 2nd tier colleges.
